The Mystery of Love
Love can be the source of so many things. It can be a catalyst for change, a source of healing, or a source of pain. It causes some to choose to not move on in toxic situations. It leads others to abandon all rationale and take on impossible tasks. It can be a source of inspiration, personal growth, and self-expression. The element that makes love a mystery is understanding how to engage in it and endure even when it leaves one open to pain. When is it appropriate to hold on because of love? Additionally, hurt, resentment, and disappointment seem to be unavoidable when love is involved. How does one navigate through this and what is true when it comes to this experience called "love"? This appears to be a good place to start. There are different types of love and your ability to engage in this experience in a healthy manner depends on your definition of it and your level of love for self. Jesus gave two commandments regarding love, and he stated that the entire law is summed up in these two commandments; "Love the Lord your God, with all of your heart, soul, and mind. The second is likened to this that you love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22:37-40). Here are things that can be taken from these two verses. The first commandment states that those who accept Jesus Christ and love God are to love him fully and wholly. To love with your heart, soul, and mind is to love through actions, thoughts, and lifestyle. Everything in a person's being should reveal that they love God. The second expresses the duty of loving others, but it starts with self. If someone learns to love themselves fully, they will fully love others. Loving neighbors include everyone outside of the individual. This means family, friends, co-workers, and all individuals that may surround them including strangers. Remember, love is expressed through action, thoughts, and lifestyle. Real love has accountability, patience, kindness, and a consistent resolve regardless of reciprocity. Learning to love oneself and gaining a better understanding of love can change the impact of love in one's life and can reduce suffering.
